Charley's is my kind of place - Willie Nelson

Take a step back in time and find true Aloha.

Charley's Restaurant and Saloon, established in 1969, is an award-winning, Maui Landmark.

Charley’s is a reflection of the culture of Maui, the essence of its foods, and the warm spirit of entertainment and Aloha.

We welcome you to a favorite community gathering place and celebrated destination spot.

Charley’s is located in Paia, Maui, Hawaii; a former sugar-plantation town that serves as the crossroads to the North Shore of Maui.  Known for its large waves and ideal conditions for surfing, windsurfing and kite-boarding, the North Shore of Maui is a water playground. The North Shore is also known for its rainforests, waterfalls and hiking.

Paia maintains its small-town, old Hawaii charm, and is now a bustling destination with restaurants, bars, shopping, coffee and gelato.

At Charley’s you never know who might be sitting next to you. It’s long been a favorite hang-out for surfers, adventurers, writers, hippies, rock stars, artists, business leaders, celebrities, and all types, looking to get away and find the ultimate in Maui hospitality.

lijah Ocean is a Brooklyn, New York–based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Born May 10, 1982 in a small house in the Hudson Valley, Ocean’s parents later moved the family to the woods of midcoast Maine. Inspired by the songs of Bob Dylan, he started writing his own music at age 13 after his parents bought him an acoustic guitar for Chistmas. The following year he discovered Jimi Hendrix and bought a cream-colored Fender Stratocaster. In 1996, he began writing and recording songs with his best friend, Evan Casás, under the name Ocean & Casás, a musical partnership that continues to this day. The duo has recorded six albums. Ocean played in several bands throughout high school. In 2000, he moved to Portand, Maine to attend the University of Southern Maine as a jazz performance major. In 2004, he left the university and concentrated on his own music, playing in a number of Portland bands that included Loverless, a heavy rock trio that toured regionally and released three studio albums. He continued to record with Casás, with whom he started a side project called Please Be Ours, with bassist Danny MacLeod of Loverless and keyboardist Eric Ambrose of Grupo Esperanza. In 2008, he joined Portland rock band, All the Real Girls, as a guitarist. He continues to collaborate and write songs with Peter Donovan, the band’s lead singer. In 2009, he married his longtime girlfriend, music video director Chell Stephen and moved to Brooklyn, New York. He released his first solo album, “The Wind Or The Wine,” which he recorded mostly live in the Shadowshine basement studio. He started his own record label, New Wheel Music, with Adam Kurtz in 2009. The label has released albums from David Tanklefsky, Billy Libby and Basement Band. In 2011, he recorded his second full-length solo studio album, “Tumble & Fall” at Dirt Floor Studios in Chester, Connecticut. The album, featuring guitarist Jeff Malinowski of Basement Band, drummer Andrew Hodgkins of As Fast As, Danny MacLeod and Eric Ambrose, came out in April on New Wheel.
