Charley's is my kind of place - Willie Nelson

Take a step back in time and find true Aloha.

Charley's Restaurant and Saloon, established in 1969, is an award-winning, Maui Landmark.

Charley’s is a reflection of the culture of Maui, the essence of its foods, and the warm spirit of entertainment and Aloha.

We welcome you to a favorite community gathering place and celebrated destination spot.

Charley’s is located in Paia, Maui, Hawaii; a former sugar-plantation town that serves as the crossroads to the North Shore of Maui.  Known for its large waves and ideal conditions for surfing, windsurfing and kite-boarding, the North Shore of Maui is a water playground. The North Shore is also known for its rainforests, waterfalls and hiking.

Paia maintains its small-town, old Hawaii charm, and is now a bustling destination with restaurants, bars, shopping, coffee and gelato.

At Charley’s you never know who might be sitting next to you. It’s long been a favorite hang-out for surfers, adventurers, writers, hippies, rock stars, artists, business leaders, celebrities, and all types, looking to get away and find the ultimate in Maui hospitality.

Drummer/bandleader/vocalist Sheryl Youngblood -
This is her first appearance at Rosa’s, and it’s long overdue. Youngblood and her band (often billed as SAY YES!) are among the tightest on the Chicago circuit; they’re fearlessly versatile, capable of segueing from street-corner doo-wop through deep soul, juke-rocking Chicago blues, and propulsive post-funk aggression to contemporary soul-blues over the course of a single set. Through it all, though, Youngblood herself remains the focal point: her ability to summon propulsive energy (and galvanize dancing feet) with textural subtleties and rhythmic nuances is a blessed relief on a scene overcrowded with slag-heap “blooze” can-bashers passing themselves off as drummers. She’s also one of the few percussionists capable of overlaying her instrumental prowess with confident, full-bodied singing, and when she blends her voice with those of her bandmates it sounds as if they’re summoning the spirits of such fabled Chicago soul vocal ensembles as the Steelers, the Impressions, and the Dells. Let’s hope that this gig represents a significant widening of her territory – she’s too gifted to remain a “diamond in the rough,” even in Chicago. ~ David Whiteis 12/13
