Charley's is my kind of place - Willie Nelson

Take a step back in time and find true Aloha.

Charley's Restaurant and Saloon, established in 1969, is an award-winning, Maui Landmark.

Charley’s is a reflection of the culture of Maui, the essence of its foods, and the warm spirit of entertainment and Aloha.

We welcome you to a favorite community gathering place and celebrated destination spot.

Charley’s is located in Paia, Maui, Hawaii; a former sugar-plantation town that serves as the crossroads to the North Shore of Maui.  Known for its large waves and ideal conditions for surfing, windsurfing and kite-boarding, the North Shore of Maui is a water playground. The North Shore is also known for its rainforests, waterfalls and hiking.

Paia maintains its small-town, old Hawaii charm, and is now a bustling destination with restaurants, bars, shopping, coffee and gelato.

At Charley’s you never know who might be sitting next to you. It’s long been a favorite hang-out for surfers, adventurers, writers, hippies, rock stars, artists, business leaders, celebrities, and all types, looking to get away and find the ultimate in Maui hospitality.

Charlie Sanders was born and raised on the mean streets of St. Paul, Minnesota. His only way out of the hood was through comedy. He started at Central High School Touring Theatre Company doing the funny parts in plays about social issues like why not to do drugs. Right out of high school he got hired to be a main stage and touring performer with Comedy Sportz, Minneapolis. Making money at comedy and not caring at all about academia led to him getting kicked out of the University of Minnesota after one quarter – he got an “A” in poetry and failed everything else. So, if comedy doesn’t pan out he plans to become a millionaire poet.

After a couple years at Comedy Sportz Charlie moved to New York City where he was hired by the comedy theatre Chicago City Limits. After singing parody songs to thousands of old people at bizarre theaters like “The Egg” in Albany Charlie left CCL for another theatre three letter acronym – UCB.
Charlie has been a performer and writer at UCB since 2002. His sketch group “Police Chief Rumble” won Best Sketch Group at the Emerging Comics of New York awards in 2004. Another sketch group of his “Buffoons” went to perform at the Montreal Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in 2007. His hit one man show “Minnesota Muslim” garnered high praise from Time Out NY and New York Magazine. During his time in New York he appeared in several national commercials and was a regular sketch actor on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”.

In 2009, Charlie moved to LA, joined UCB LA, and bought the first car of his life – a Ford Focus, not to brag. He performs regularly at UCBLA in “Shitty Jobs” and “Assscat”. He has parts in four upcoming feature films – “A NY Things”, “When in Rome”, “Freak Dance”, and “Cedar Rapids” and has appeared on “The Office”.

How’s that for braggin’?!
