Charley's is my kind of place - Willie Nelson

Take a step back in time and find true Aloha.

Charley's Restaurant and Saloon, established in 1969, is an award-winning, Maui Landmark.

Charley’s is a reflection of the culture of Maui, the essence of its foods, and the warm spirit of entertainment and Aloha.

We welcome you to a favorite community gathering place and celebrated destination spot.

Charley’s is located in Paia, Maui, Hawaii; a former sugar-plantation town that serves as the crossroads to the North Shore of Maui.  Known for its large waves and ideal conditions for surfing, windsurfing and kite-boarding, the North Shore of Maui is a water playground. The North Shore is also known for its rainforests, waterfalls and hiking.

Paia maintains its small-town, old Hawaii charm, and is now a bustling destination with restaurants, bars, shopping, coffee and gelato.

At Charley’s you never know who might be sitting next to you. It’s long been a favorite hang-out for surfers, adventurers, writers, hippies, rock stars, artists, business leaders, celebrities, and all types, looking to get away and find the ultimate in Maui hospitality.

The beginning consisted of tinkling piano keys in a Burbank bungalow. (If you're unfamiliar, it's part of the Los Angeles sprawl). Three-year-old Katie found out where her vocal cords were and apparently tried them out...a lot. Dad was a composer, mom was an artist, music was everywhere. Then came piano lessons, painful middle school oboe, jazz band, and more singing. A Fresh Step cat litter jingle was one of Katie's first singing jobs, for which it was requested profusely by her friends (much to her chagrin). Montréal decided to lure her in for college, so she packed her bags, froze her bunda off for five years, and now she has a jazz performance degree in a box somewhere. She learned what a toque was and did a lot of scatting. It was a magical, inspiring place and she misses the poutine. A successful audition for Sergio Mendes' band was unexpected and thrilling. For the last five years she's toured on and off, sang in Portuguese, and tried to samba as good as a white girl can. She sang backgrounds with Bright Eyes and the LA Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, and still isn't quite sure that one was real. Throw in some TV and film session singing (including the theme for Don't Trust the B---- in Apt. 23), more background singing, an art department job on Modern Family, and you know a little bit more about Katie Hampton. This EP was created by Katie and her dad Steve. They weren't sure what the blender would produce. They wrote what they wanted to and didn't do it for anything but integrity and creativity. They hope you like it.
